Who Is the Military Leader Israel Announced as Killed?
On Saturday, the Israeli army announced the elimination of a high-ranking field commander in Gaza, with reports indicating he was directly responsible for the kidnapping and killing of Shiri Beipas and her two children.
The Israeli forces stated that the targeted individual was **Asaad Abu Shreira, commander of the Mujahideen Brigades**, who was dismantled during a joint special operation carried out by the Israeli army and the Shin Bet (internal security agency) in northern Gaza, an area heavily ravaged in the current conflict.
Sources reported that Abu Shreira had assumed leadership of the relatively small Mujahideen Brigades in recent years and had played a significant role in several key operations.

The Israeli military also mentioned that Abu Shreira had entered the Neria Oz settlement on October 7, 2023, and was one of the key commanders responsible for the surprise attack launched by Hamas and other Palestinian factions.
Furthermore, reports indicated that Abu Shreira was involved in recruiting militants in the West Bank and inside Israel to carry out attacks on Israeli targets.
During the ongoing Gaza war, Abu Shreira was identified as a key figure in coordinating attacks against Israeli forces operating within the Gaza Strip, where he played a major role in recent operations.
