New Zealand Targets Iran's Allies.. Houthis and Hezbollah Added to Terror Lists
-
The addition of the Houthis and Hezbollah to the terror list represents an advanced step in efforts to isolate armed groups from the global financial system

New Zealand authorities have classified the Iran-backed Houthi armed group and Hezbollah's political wing as terrorist organizations.
This initiative was led by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, in cooperation with Attorney General Judith Collins, following the Houthis' involvement in military escalation in the Red Sea and their involvement in the Yemeni conflict.
The New Zealand decision includes warnings about possible prosecution of any individual dealing with the properties of both groups or providing them with financial services, along with a call for citizens to report any properties suspected of being linked to these organizations.
Yemeni Minister of Information Muammar Al-Eryani welcomed this classification, stating that "the Houthi militia has not only attacked Yemen's security and people but has become a direct threat to international peace and security through attacking international shipping lines, disrupting global energy supplies, and spreading chaos in the region on behalf of Iran."
The Yemeni government called on the international community, particularly the United States, Britain, and the European Union, to take similar measures in classifying the Houthis as a global terrorist organization.
Al-Eryani emphasized that "firm deterrence of this militia... and drying up its resources and funding sources represents an international legal and moral responsibility to ensure regional stability and protect the global system."
