Marwan Kivan Calls for Syrian Democratic Forces to Lead the Transitional Stage in Syria
مروان كيوان

In an unprecedented development, Druze Sheikh Marwan Kivan has called upon the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to save the country and lead the transitional phase, amidst escalating disagreements with the Syrian government and Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri’s declaration of losing confidence in the official authority.

In a televised interview, Kivan emphasized the necessity for the SDF to assume leadership of a unified, democratic, secular, and decentralized Syria, aiming to preserve national unity, guarantee the rights of all Syrian components, distribute wealth fairly, and avoid civil conflict.

He urged major powers and relevant entities to adopt this proposal, viewing the SDF as a model of democracy characterized by discipline and productivity. He assured that there is significant confidence in their capabilities and role during the transitional period.

Sheikh Marwan also criticized the Syrian interim government for destroying the Kurds in Afrin and the Alawites, expressing hope that the international community would intervene to protect followers of various religious sects from injustice and lead Syria toward stability.

In a related context, the Military Council in Suwayda, in southern Syria, fully supported Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri's statement, considering their mission to protect the people of the Jabal al-Arab region. The council noted that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, currently controlling areas within the region, has committed war crimes through random shelling and arbitrary arrests of Druze civilians, in addition to insulting symbols and sanctities of the sect.

Amid heightened security tensions and political changes, efforts by local residents and parties continue to improve security and achieve sustainable calm to ensure civil peace, amid international and regional calls for mediation and de-escalation in southern Syria.
