Vatican Announces the Death of Pope Francis

The Vatican announced on Monday the death of Pope Francis at the age of 88, after more than 12 years of his papacy, marked by attempts to implement profound reforms and firm stances on international issues, including wars and humanitarian conflicts. The death of Pope Francis, who was the first leader of the Catholic Church from Latin America, marks the end of an era filled with transformations and divisions within the halls of the Vatican.

Over the past two months, media reports indicated that Pope Francis's health was critical, as he was hospitalized last February due to difficulty breathing and was later diagnosed with pneumonia in his lungs.

Pope Francis was known for his provocative statements over the years, repeatedly calling for the "silencing of weapons" and "overcoming divisions," highlighting various tensions and conflicts around the world. Last year, he condemned the "very serious humanitarian situation" in the Gaza Strip, calling for a ceasefire and the release of Israeli hostages.

Pope Francis also spoke about at least 18 countries, from Burma to Haiti, passing through Mali, Venezuela, and Cyprus, with a particular focus on Middle Eastern issues during his various speeches.

More than 100 high school students from across the Kingdom of Bahrain took part in the hackathon, which featured an intensive programme of training workshops and hands-on sessions. These activities were tailored to enhance participants’ critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and team-building capabilities, while also encouraging the development of practical and sustainable solutions to contemporary challenges using modern technological tools.
